Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
Brief Description of Position: Provides an educational program for pupils in grades K-5 or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Provides learning experience in language arts, social studies, pre-reading, arithmetic, science, art, physical education and music to pupils, utilizing California state standards. 2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the charter. 3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 4. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. 5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities, supports and assists in maintaining the site discipline plan. 6. Evaluates academic and social growth of pupils, and keeps appropriate records. 7. Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil’s progress and interpret the school program. 8. Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 9. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and centers. 10. Participate cooperatively and actively in the collaborative school culture. 11. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the school and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 12. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which performance will be evaluated in conformance with charter guidelines. 13. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. 2. Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible. 3. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. 4. Participates in curriculum and the development programs as required. 5. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. 6. Participates on school committees. 7. Performs other duties as assigned, including special assignment during crises or emergency situations as determined by the administrator. Supervision Exercised or Received: Under the immediate direction of the site administrator. May plan and supervise the work of classified personnel. Assignment Type and Work Year: Assignment in this class may be full-time or part-time. Work year is single track year-round. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: 1. Credential: Valid teaching credential as required by California law. CLAD or BCLAD 2. Education: Bachelor’s degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. 3. Experience: Student teaching (8 semester hours or 180 clock hours) or two years of full-time elementary classroom teaching experience.
