Job Description

Position:              ACCELERATED RESOURCE TEACHER (Temporary)

Work Days:          School-year (134 days)

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

An Accelerated Resource Teacher is a certificated temporary employee with an appropriate credential, employed pursuant to Education Code section 44909 in programs and projects to perform services conducted under contract with public or private agencies, or categorically funded projects which are not required by federal or state statutes.  The terms and conditions under which an Accelerated Resource Teacher is employed shall be mutually agreed upon by the employee and the Governing Board, and such agreement shall be reduced to writing.  Such agreement shall specify the number of hours to be worked per day and days to be worked per week, as well as the length of the work year.  Any such agreement may be terminated by the Governing Board in its sole discretion, with or without cause and for any reason satisfactory to the Governing Board. 

Salary and Benefits:         

Accelerated Resource Teachers are not eligible for health insurance or other Fringe Benefits.

Accelerated Resource Teachers are paid a daily rate of $145.00.  If serving as a substitute teacher on a day scheduled to serve as an ART, the pay is calculated at $145.00 per day.  If serving as a substitute teacher on a day on which the individual is not scheduled to serve as an ART, the normal rate, as indicated on the district Substitute Salary Schedule, will apply. Service days as an ART do not count as credit towards advancement on the Substitute Salary Schedule unless the ART is serving as a substitute teacher.

Work days/year:

Accelerated Resource Teachers are employed for up to one school year for a maximum period of one hundred thirty-four days, or less than seventy-five percent of the number of days the school is in session, whichever is greater, and for a maximum of six consecutive hours per day, including the lunch period.  Service as an Accelerated Resource Teacher shall not be included in computing the service required to become a permanent employee of the District.

Duties:

Accelerated Resource Teachers will provide services as needed, under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, and indirect supervision of the Principal/Resource Teacher. They will be required to provide special instruction to students in a group, one-on-one or in a special team-teaching situation and to perform other instructional duties desired or required to assist in and support the implementation of the school plan and existing or newly established instructional programs.

Other Duties:

Accelerated Resource Teachers may be required to serve as day-to-day substitute teachers when the need arises.  Service as a substitute may exceed the 6 hour daily maximum.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualification includes possession of a valid California Teaching Credential. Substitute Credential considered.  Bilingual skills preferred.  Some positions will require bilingual skills.

• This is a temporary, categorically funded position.  Continuation of the program is dependent upon continued funding from the identified programs.
