TITLE OF POSITION: ELECTRICIAN
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The job of "Electrician" involves maintaining electrical systems and components in safe operating condition; providing information on proper operation of electrical systems; identifying location of existing electrical systems; determining the efficient installation of additional systems; and other related duties as assigned. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Installs and maintains electrical systems and equipment including communications, alarms (signal system), ensuring safe operating conditions.
- Repairs electrical systems and equipment including communications, alarms (signal system), for the purpose of ensuring proper/safe operation of equipment.
- Repairs electrical systems and equipment including communications, alarms (signal system) for the purpose of ensuring proper/safe operation of equipment.
- Provides recommendations for ordering supplies, equipment and tools.
- Records work orders, inspections, and purchases for the purpose of documenting information for other personnel.
- Orients staff or designated personnel for the purpose of providing information on proper operation of electrical systems.
- Analyzes drawings for the purpose of identifying location of existing electrical systems and provides recommendations for efficient installation of additional systems.
- Responds to emergency situations, e.g., facility damage or related hazards for the purpose of removing immediate safety concerns.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Attends internal and external training programs, e.g., equipment/safety for the purpose of maintaining skills and district policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of meeting demands, completing work orders or safety issues in a timely manner.
- Coordinates with district staff and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience Required: Four years of journeyman level experience.
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills of operation of hand and power tools used in craft, reading and interpretation of plans, blue prints and/or schematics. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in craft; appropriate building codes; safety practices; systems components. Abilities to stand for extended periods; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish priorities; work independently with minimal supervision. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pulling, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing ordinary conversations and hearing other sounds, near and far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation/color vision.
- Training Required: Proficiency in trade as evidenced by journeyman level skills in the trade or demonstration of journeyman electrician skills.
- Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability, TB test clearance, criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
