Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; major or coursework in education and active Michigan teacher certification strongly preferred Master’s degree strongly preferred Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience with a proven track record of leading students to achievement gains; three (3) years of experience coaching teachers and/or designing and leading professional learning for pre-service or early career teachers; at least three (3) years of experience working directly with senior-level leaders (preferred). Experience as a school-level building leader strongly preferred Demonstrated knowledge of content standards and high-leverage teaching practices in one or more of the following areas: K-5 ELA, K-5 math, secondary mathematics, secondary science, special education. Experience designing/facilitating coursework in online platforms (preferred). Demonstrated knowledge and experience with state level teacher certification structures and policies Knowledge and experience with project management tools and processes.

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for pre-service teacher development that includes the launch of DPSCD’s alternative teacher certification program, On the Rise Academy and supports for host schools and mentor teachers Build relationships across internal departments to drive execution of our Talent Pipelines strategy; interact with and respond effectively and promptly to urgent requests from multiple internal and external DPSCD stakeholders Supervise, support, and evaluate full-time and part-time Talent Pipelines team members, setting clear expectations and developing staff through job-embedded professional learning experiences Develop and promote systems, structures, and resources that support key Talent Pipelines initiatives Oversee the design of On the Rise Academy’s training scopes and sequences and course materials; manage course writers and designers and liaise with other internal departments including Curriculum and Instruction to ensure training is grounded in our Vision of Excellent Instruction Design and facilitate staff training experiences that include ongoing practice and feedback cycles for part-time Institute staff and full-time instructional staff Collaborate with other Human Resources teams including recruitment and staffing and operations to support On the Rise Academy recruitment, selection, and enrollment Design and manage a team to execute a coaching strategy for On the Rise Academy participants; use data to identify trends in participant performance to determine the highest priority development areas for individuals and groups Provide direct coaching supports to a group of Fellows through direct observation, in-lesson interventions, and ongoing practice/feedback loops Liaise with the Office of Schools to provide support and execute ongoing engagement with school principals around new teacher preparation and support Develop and manage strong partnerships with local and national teacher education programs and community partners Create compelling analyses and reports of Talent Pipelines initiatives including those related to On the Rise Academy participant data to determine program strengths and to drive programmatic changes Liaise with Michigan Department of Education staff to ensure compliance with alternative certification program requirements and to manage program accreditation Anticipate challenges in advance and identify resources needed for the Talent Pipeline team to meet its expected outcomes Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Executive Director, Talent Pipelines
