Requirements / Qualifications

POSITION: Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in maintaining grounds and athletic fields; and performs related work as required. Example of Duties: • Does gardening work in maintaining and irrigating school landscaped areas and athletic fields • Perform all phases of plants, shrub and tree pruning • Maintains and may mow lawns; maintains football and baseball fields • May install new plants, lawns and turf; cultivates earth • Uses natural and chemical fertilizers as needed • Prepares soil for various kinds of planting • May operate equipment such as power lawnmowers, trucks and related equipment • Drags tracks, lines fields • May maintain and repair irrigation systems as required • May perform minor mechanical repair work as directed • May train new groundskeepers ------------------------------------------------- *See Job Description*

REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must possess the knowledge and skill required for successful job performance as follows: Training and Experience: • A combination of training and experience equivalent to two (2) years’ experience in grounds maintenance work Knowledge of: • The kinds of turf and plants common to the area • Plant nursery work • How to maintain athletic ground surfaces Skill in: • Identifying diseases and pests of the various turfs and plants worked on, and in treating the turfs and plants for such diseases and pests • Maintaining athletic fields Ability to: • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Licenses and Certificates: • A valid California driver’s license
