2nd / 3rd Grade Teacher at Red Bridge Education
About the Employer
Red Bridge is an independent K-8 school that opened last September 2020 in San Francisco. Red Bridge was founded as a demonstration school for a new model of education designed to foster a sense of agency in every student as the foundation for academic and life success. Student ownership is built into every system and structure of the school, so that students gradually take on more responsibility for their learning. This puts every student on the path to becoming a lifelong learner – so that no matter what the future looks like, they have the capacity to adapt and flourish.
Requirements / Qualifications
Teachers at Red Bridge are models of lifelong learning: collaborating to design meaningful learning experiences for students, closely observing children’s development and needs, and creating and reflecting on new routines and systems. Red Bridge currently has two teaching roles: Learning Guide and Subject Expert. Learning Guides are the in-school advocate for each child. In this role Learning Guides meet weekly one-on-one with each student to discuss their development as learners and community members. Subject Experts are primarily responsible for leading small-group instruction in their area of expertise, and for providing individual support in the subject as needed. Red Bridge has three core subjects: Communication, Computation and Observation. Red Bridge does not group students by grade level, but by Autonomy Level. Each Autonomy Level spans about three years of age difference. This position is for Autonomy Level II, which generally includes 6- to 8-year-olds. You will work with up to twelve students at a time. Responsibilities in the school’s early years will include small group instruction in core subjects, SEL lessons, work habits instruction, and design of project-based learning experiences. Responsibilities also include student supervision, parent communication, student assessment and feedback. As our first ever Autonomy Level II teacher you will be creating new resources and routines and making revisions to them as necessary. This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of School.
