Job Summary

The Behavioral Interventionist works closely with Beacon multidisciplinary team to assist students to eliminate or replace disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors exhibited by the students to which they are assigned and replace them with positive actions. Under the administrative direction of the Manager of Behavior Services and the Special Education Teacher, Behavior Interventionist supports academic instruction, and communicates with school personnel concerning the needs of special education students aged 5 to 22 years. Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to: - Oversees classroom behaviors and academics under the direction of the teacher and Manager of Behavior Services for providing an opportunity for the student to participate in classroom activities; - Assists in implementing student’s IEP and Behavior Intervention Plan; - Implements and model’s alternative communication intervention strategies for teaching students to communicate effectively; - Monitors and records data on academic and/or behavioral goals; - Participates in mandatory training and other staff development programs as directed for the purpose of learning and enhancing new skillsets; - Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of documenting and communicating information to appropriate personnel; - Assists with student behavior management on the vans to and from school and when assigned to transportation duties during community based instruction; - Communicates with staff any necessary student information pertinent to maintaining the school’s positive teaching and behavioral environment; - Works in the classroom with staff and students on a rotating basis to prevent crisis situations; Using Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-ACT) techniques identifies and appropriately responds to any verbal and physical containment situations as needed; - Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma is required; Associates of Arts Degree or bachelor’s Degree is preferred. - Experience in classroom and/or behavior management is highly preferred.
