About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. ACCESS is a public, WASC accredited educational program offering a variety of unique school options serving students throughout Orange County. Our program is committed to the education of the whole student through the use of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). This approach is designed to meet the academic and socio-emotional needs of our students to prepare them for successful transitions to college and career. ACCESS recognizes and believes everyone can learn. We offer multiple instructional learning environments to help students find their personal path in education and provide individualized, targeted, and differentiated instruction with standards-based curriculum and assessments. We are currently recruiting for a Teacher to work in our Special Education Department within ACCESS. Teachers are responsible for the supervision and maintenance of a positive, student-oriented environment in which students feel safe and secure. Teachers provide instruction in diverse settings, which may include day school, contract learning, and juvenile court school. Additional essential functions of the Teacher position include: • Contact and meet with parents, staff, probation, and social service agencies regarding enrollment eligibility and/or student progress. • Act as a liaison among parents, students, school districts, social service agencies, and the Probation Department. • Establish and maintain required state and local records related to student enrollment, academic progress, and attendance. • Demonstrate supervisory skills which promote productive student activity in the educational setting and ensure safety and security. • Promote and demonstrate professional and positive interactions with students and colleagues in education and collaborative agencies. • Prepare special written reports to parents, probation, social services agencies, or district of residence; complete required reports with timeliness and accuracy.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training Guidelines: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor's degree or above from a regionally accredited college or university. • Recent experience working in alternative educational settings or charter school teaching at-risk students preferred Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: • Possession and maintenance of a valid California teaching credential authorizing instruction in Special Education for students with mild/moderate disabilities. • Meet the Basic Skills Requirement through one of the methods listed on Form CL-667 on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website - www.ctc.ca.gov • Authorization to provide instruction for English language development (ELD) and specially designed academic instruction delivered in English (SDAIE) to English learners. Appropriate credentials include an Educational Specialist Instruction Teaching Credential with English learner authorization, CLAD (Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development) or BLCLAD (Bilingual Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development) authorizations, or Certificate of Completion of Staff Development (AB2913/SB395 training)
