Under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor, perform technical work in the design, installation, repair and maintenance of District irrigation systems: perform a variety of general maintenance and grounds keeping functions. Plan, layout, assemble, install, maintain and repair automatic and manual sprinkler and drip irrigation systems. Maintain, repair, replace and rebuild new and existing irrigation systems, including valves, sprinklers, back flow devices, controllers and related equipment; maintain current knowledge of irrigation systems and related components. Measure, cut, thread and install pipes, tubing and a variety of sprinkler, irrigation and plumbing systems fixtures; excavate trenches. Perform minor pest control duties. Mow, trim edge and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; remove weeds as needed. Operate power equipment such as saws, bobcats, snakes, movers, hedgers, trimmers, forklifts, jackhammers and trenches; drive a District vehicle to and from worksites; maintain related maintenance records for power equipment and vehicles; make minor repairs to grounds equipment as needed and perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education/Experience:Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of journey-level experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of sprinkler, irrigation and plumbing systems. Knowledge/ Abilities: Knowledge of procedures, methods, techniques, materials, supplies, tools and equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance of sprinklers, irrigation and plumbing systems; building codes and other restrictions pertaining to sprinkler irrigation and plumbing systems; safe working methods and procedures; basic record-keeping techniques. Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds keeping; cultivating, fertilizing, watering and spraying of flowers, trees and shrubs; herbicides and other chemicals used in grounds maintenance and pest control; proper operation of heavy grounds equipment. Ability to efficiently and effectively use a variety of hand and power tools and equipment used to perform skilled repairs of irrigation systems and sprinklers; design, install, maintain and repair irrigation systems; perform specialized grounds keeping duties in the care and maintenance of District grounds; maintain and repair sprinklers and watering systems; operate heavy power equipment used in grounds keeping; maintain routine records; work cooperatively with others; observe legal and defensive driving practices; understand and follow oral and written instructions. Licenses/Other: A Valid California driver’s license, and a driving record acceptable to the District for insurance purposes. Must obtain and maintain, within three (3) years of employment, certification from an adult, trade, or community college school verifying the completion of coursework in Custodial Care and Practices, Fundamentals of Grounds Care and Maintenance and Fundamentals of Maintenance. Must complete District approved coursework in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems and County back-flow certification
