Coachella Valley Unified School District covers more than 1,200 square miles of mostly rural desert terrain, serving the communities of Coachella, Thermal, Mecca, Oasis, Indio, and the Salton Sea. Requirements / Qualifications
Definition: Under general supervision to plan and supervise the custodial work of the school building, identify maintenance needs and perform minor maintenance tasks, and other related work as required. Examples of Duties: 1. Identify maintenance needs and perform minor maintenance tasks at site. 2. Confer with school principal to discuss and advice on special problems regarding the care and cleaning of the plant. 3. Replace broken windows. 4. Make assignments to custodial personnel and prepare work schedules. 5. make a regular inspection of custodial work and prepare reports regarding such. 6. Interview and screen prospective employees and recommend approval or disapproval. 7. Train and instruct subordinate personnel in the performance of their duties. 8. Make recommendations concerning custodial staffing. 9. Test new custodial supplies and equipment and make recommendations for purchasing action. 10. Review custodial supplies and equipment requisitions. 11. Arrange time schedules, vacation periods, and plan the vacation work schedule. 12. Keep records and prepare reports; answer requests for setting up classrooms, cafeteria and auditoriums for special events. 13. Operate heating and ventilating equipment. 14. Replace light switches and plugs. 15. Change filters on coolers and air conditioners. 16. Basic carpentry repairs. Required Qualifications: 1. To understand and follow oral and written directions. 2. To establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with others. 3. To be courteous, neat and clean at all times. 4. To be dependable, industrious and in good physical conditions. 5. To be tactful, use good judgment, exhibit integrity and resourcefulness. 6. To have a valid California’s driver’s license. 7. Three years experience in school or other comparable custodial work, including one year in a supervisory capacity. 8. Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
