SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PERSONNEL ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of a Director of Human Resources, perform diverse technical functions in the support of one or more personnel programs; work under the direction and guidance of a Personnel Technician in assisting in the control and processing of personnel records. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Respond to inquiries from administrators and classified or certifi¬cated personnel regarding any aspect of the personnel program; communicate and explain Board and District policies and regulations. E Prepare Board agendas for Board action on personnel matters involving certificated or classified personnel; assemble and type all material in support of Board actions. E Process personnel related paper work including forms for establishing new employees, payroll forms, change of status forms and other forms and correspondence regarding resignations, terminations and leaves. E Maintain a set of complete personnel records as assigned. E Oversee special programs as directed such as the tax shelter annuity program, PERS refunds, changes of status. E Perform various personnel_related research assignments; prepare or assist in the preparation of reports and correspondence as directed. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Classified and certificated contract agreements. Board policies and practices. Board agenda item preparation. Various rules which apply to compensation, contract interpretations, and personnel practices. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Record_keeping techniques. English, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Oral and written communications skills. Applicable sections of State Education Codes. Technical aspects of field of specialty. ABILITY TO: Operate office machines including typewriter and calculator. Work cooperatively with others. Type at an acceptable rate of speed. Communicate effectively with others. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Meet schedules and time lines. Maintain records and prepare reports. Work confidentially with discretion. Perform the essential functions of the job. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and three years' experience working in a personnel office as a personnel clerk or in another clerical position. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Constant interruptions. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Hearing and speaking accurately to exchange information in person or on the telephone. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials. Sitting for extended periods of time. Lifting or moving objects, normally not exceeding twenty (20) pounds.
