POSITION DESCRIPTION:          LEAD CUSTODIAN                                        

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:  Under the supervision of the Principal and the Custodial Supervisor Principal to hold  responsibility for the cleanliness, maintenance and safety of the school site; to provide direction from the Custodial Supervisor to all other custodial personnel assigned to the site; to cooperate with the Director of Maintenance & Operations in the completion of work orders at the school site; to perform basic gardening work and the maintenance of landscaped and other areas; to perform custodial services required to maintain assigned building areas; to set up school facilities for community and school activities on a regular basis, and to do related work as required.

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal / Custodial Supervisor

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the overall custodial program of the school.
  • When needed assists with the custodial operation, developing work schedules in cooperation with school principals and custodial supervisor.
  • Schedules and inspects work in progress and work completed as required.
  • Trains and instructs personnel.
  • Complete custodial services as assigned; (ie: vacuum, mopping, polishing, washing, etc.)
  • Tests new custodial supplies and equipment and makes recommendation for purchase.
  •  Assist with reviews of all custodial supplies and equipment requisitions.
  • Completes necessary basic gardening work.
  • Performs minor maintenance work and coordinates maintenance tasks with Director of Maintenance & Operations.
  • Participates in cleaning, painting, and restoration of school buildings and grounds.
  • Keeps required records and prepares reports.
  • Set up and prepare school facilities for school and community use on a regular basis.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:  Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade

EXPERIENCE:  Any combination equivalent to a basic education and three years experience in custodial work.

FINGERPRINTING:  Fingerprint clearance will be required and conviction records will be checked.  Cost of fingerprinting is $69.00 (DOJ & FBI) and will be the responsibility of the successful candidate.

TUBERCULOSIS CERTIFICATE (TB):   Must furnish certificate showing proof of being free from active tuberculosis

KNOWLEDGE OF: Ability to coordinate the actions of other workers; functional knowledge of all equipment operated at the school site; ability to identify potential breakdowns and safety hazards, and to take corrective action before such problems cause loss of service or injury; ability to deal with all problems at school site simultaneously and to prioritize which need immediate action; ability to evaluate which repairs can be completed by District personnel and which require outside service.

Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work and of the methods, materials, and practices used in gardening and grounds maintenance work; knowledge of or ability to learn chemical sprays used in insecticide control; ability to maintain schedules for performing assigned tasks; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to lift/pull/push a minimum of 50 pounds and exhibit full range of motion of spin and extremities.
