JOB DESCRIPTION To develop in each pupil an appreciation of history and cultural diversity; to develop proficiency in the use of social studies inquiry skills and concepts; to motivate each pupil to understand and exercise his/her rights, privileges, and responsibilities as a citizen’; to develop understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors which influence the development of the world regions; to encourage pupils to develop sound opinions based on study of facts concerning operation of political and economic systems. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Depending upon position available and applicable skills the position may require: 1. That one has the ability to teach courses in social studies, history, geography, government, political science, or humanities to secondary pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by BCS and other appropriate learning activities. 2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter 3. Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry. 4. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds. 5. Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the governmental and economic systems, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. 6. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employees will participate in the ministry of the school which stems from a non-denominational Christian faith perspective.
- Agree with the BCS Statement of Faith, Mission Statement and Code of Conduct.
Depending upon position available and applicable skills the position may require:

13. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
14. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
15. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
16. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
17. Performs other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor.
18. Ability to prepare students for AP exams if required to teach this course.

WORK YEAR:
BCS has approximately 180 teaching days. Teachers begin 1.5 weeks before the students arrive on campus, planning, preparing and training. There are various workdays throughout the year which result in a teaching contract of 190 (approximate) workdays beginning in mid-August and ending in early June.
