Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
Definition: A certificated person who provides a basic learning and functional program for learning handicapped students in a Special Class Center, encompassing basic learning skills, basic subject skills, social competence, and emotional needs of each student. Responsible To: Director of Special Education School principal Major Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Teaches learning handicapped students, in a Special Day Class, the basic learning and functional skills commensurate with the emotional, physical, and intellectual development of the student. 2. Interprets the abilities and needs of the learning handicapped child to the entire staff and coordinates the integration of students, when possible, into regular classrooms. 3. Serves as a member of the Student Study Team, as needed. 4. Develops Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student. 5. Confers frequently with parents/guardians and staff members regarding the educational, social, and behavioral needs of the student. 6. Maintains attendance and assessment records necessary to the progress of the students. 7. Maintains records necessary to comply with state and federal regulations. 8. Trains, supervises and confers with an assigned Special Education classroom aide. 9. Orders supplies and equipment for remedial instruction. 10. Attends in-service and meetings, as required. 11. Performs other duties as may be assigned. The District is recruiting Special Education Moderate/Severe Teachers for the 2021-2022 school year. Applicants must have, or obtain, a California Education Specialist Teaching Credential with Moderate/Severe (or equivalent) credential, Autism and CLAD (English Learner) authorizations prior to July 2021. If you are currently in a credential program and do not have a credential issued at the time of your application, submit a letter from the university stating you are on track to complete the specific credential program by an anticipated date. If you are in the process of applying for a California credential and have an equivalent credential from out-of-state, attached a copy of your current state credential/license.
