Position: |
ASL SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER FOR THE DEAF |
Definition: |
Under supervision, to assist a teacher carry out the educational program by supporting a student with a hearing impairment; to facilitate communication between teacher and student with hearing impairments; to serve as interpreter; and to do other related work as required. Work may be performed with child individually or in small groups. |
Example of Duties: |
Assists the teacher in carrying out the educational program by helping deaf/hard of hearing students with their learning tasks; assists in preparing instructional material; performs interpreting services individually or in a group setting; assists deaf students in meeting instructional demands and classroom assignments. Assists in supervising children at any time on campus or on school transportation as needed. |
Education and Experience: |
High school graduation or its equivalent in training and experience. Six (6) months’ experience providing interpreting service to hearing impaired persons or possession of at least one certificate issued by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. |

This position is 4 hours per day, 5 days per week. You would be assisting a student who is in a special education preschool program.
