JOB TITLE:  TEACHER

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Teaches content and skills in English, Science, Mathematics, Reading and subjects as they pertain to the grade level being taught.  Utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.

 

2.         Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

 

3.         Adapts appropriate materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils.

 

4.         Determines instructional materials designed to achieve instructional goals and behavioral objectives.  Selects books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity levels of pupils.

 

5.         Provides individual and group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the need of each pupil. May provide remedial programs for pupils who have not achieved language competency commensurate with their potential.

 

6.         Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas.

 

7.         Evaluates each pupil’s progress, prepares progress reports and coordinates parent teacher conferences.

 

8.         Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide a productive learning environment during regular class sessions, extra activities and field trips.

 

9.         Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.

 

OTHERR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1          Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

 

2.         Communicates with parents and appropriate school personnel on the individual pupil’s progress.

 

3.         Supervises pupils in and out of classroom during the assigned working day.

            (recess duty, bus duty, etc.)

 

4.         Administers or monitors individual and group tests.

 

5.         Requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.

 

6.         Participates in curriculum within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.  May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.

 

7.         Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.

 

8.         Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.

 

9.         May plan and coordinate the work of volunteers, tutors and paraeducators.

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s degree and California Teaching Credential required including CLAD.  Experience in elementary and middle school teaching is highly desirable.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:   Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, or superintendent.  Ability to write articles for publication that conforms to standard style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to superintendent, public groups, and/or board of trustees.

 

MATHEMATIAL SKILLS:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  State of California Valid Teaching Credential including CLAD, California Driver’s License.
