BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Business Manager/Chief Financial Officer, plan, organize and administer the work of a unit of the security department involved in school operations, patrol, investigation and support services.



REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Develop and maintain procedures and methods related to school operations, patrol, investigations or support services for protecting District property and personnel; design and implement plans to reduce truancy.

Recommend improvements in policies, procedures and regulations to the Business Manager/Chief Financial Officer.

Conduct surveys and studies to determine District security needs and recommend specific actions to prevent anti-social or illegal activities.

Establish and maintain liaison with District offices and local law enforcement departments to facilitate investigative and support measures.

Recommend and develop security and emergency preparedness programs and standard operating procedures.

Coordinate emergency planning training within the District.

Research and report to administration on legislation, issues and trends in school district safety and security laws and procedures.

Direct the maintenance of records and compilation of required reports; review reports prepared by department personnel and recommend follow-up action as needed.

Provide functional supervision of field assignments, patrol routes and scheduling of work shifts of department personnel.

Interview, select and evaluate department personnel.

Conduct internal investigations on department personnel as warranted.

Develop, supervise and conduct in-service training and staff development programs for department personnel.

Direct and supervise the preparation of the operating budget of the department.

Attend meetings, as designated by the Business Manager/Chief Financial Officer, on a regular basis.

Coordinate and administer disciplinary proceedings involving department personnel as directed.

Plan, coordinate and supervise functions and activities related to the District's intrusion alarm systems as directed.

OTHER DUTIES:
Perform related duties as assigned.



INITIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school, or equivalent, supplemented by college level course work in police administration, criminal justice, public administration, business administration or related field and four years experience in a law enforcement or security department, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver's license.

Successful completion of Peace Officers Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) and certification, which has been approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and training (POST).

Successful completion of SB 1626 training and certification, which has been approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST), including anyone employed on or after July 1, 2000.

First Aid certificate and CPR card issued by an authorized agency.
