Welcome to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District website. We are the largest school district in Santa Barbara County with about 17,500 pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. In the heart of the coastal agricultural area, we celebrate our families and the support they provide to the students of the District. ELECTRICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform skilled electrical work in the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment; perform semiskilled and skilled functions in other trade areas.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Inspect, repair, install, test, service and maintain electrical systems, including conduit and duct systems, light and power circuits, motor appliances, generators, control equipment, switches, switchboards, fans, bells, buzzers, clocks and fire alarm systemsE; install interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliancesE; wire newly constructed and altered structuresE; replace circuit breakersE; assemble, install and maintain lighting fixtures and field lighting systemsE; perform repair work on audio-visual equipment, public address and intercom systems as requestedE; plan, organize and lay out assigned tasksE; install and maintain heavy machinery and power toolsE; requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies, parts and materialsE; estimate labor and material costsE; drive a service vehicle to and from work sitesE; coordinate and direct the work of others as required; assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism; perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade;
Electrical codes and regulations applicable to school facility maintenance, repair and construction;
Safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to:
Skillfully use tools and equipment in the performance of electrical installations, maintenance and repair activities;
Plan, organize, and lay out electrical work;
Accurately estimate labor and material costs;
Work from diagrams, blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, shop plans, and specifications;
Maintain simple records and prepare complete and concise reports;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School supplemented by coursework or training in modern electrical repair and maintenance, and two years of journey level experience as an electrician.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Driver's License;
Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment:
Indoor/outdoor/adverse weather environments;
Driving a vehicle to conduct work;
Physical Abilities:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to install and repair various electrical systems;
Seeing to perform duties;
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;
Kneeling or crouching;
Climbing ladders;
Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Hazards:
Electrical power supply and high voltage;
Working at heights;
Working around and with machinery having moving parts.
