Mandarin teaching position available for the 2023-2024 school year for grades 1-6, plus potentially kindergarten after school enrichment. Use music, art, movement, and games to teach a love for Mandarin language and culture. Single Subject Credential in World Languages: Mandarin or Multiple Subject Credential with 12 units of college level Mandarin required. Position has room to grow, as we will be adding additional classes/grade levels each year for years to come.

El Rio Community School (elrioschool.org) is seeking an elementary school Mandarin Teacher to start in August 2022.
El Rio was founded in 2020, and will be entering its third year as a growing elementary school with three kindergartens, two first grades, two second grades, a third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. We will add a grade level every year until we are a K-8 school with two classes at each grade level.
A love of teaching and a knowledge of or interest in Waldorf education is required.
The Mandarin Teacher will be responsible for approximately teaching 15 periods per week in addition to other duties on campus.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Preparation for classes (including preparation/clean-up of the classroom as necessary)
- Constant evaluation of student progress
- Discipline during class
- Preparation of a syllabus for the students
- Daily attendance
- Provide a narrative evaluation for each student at the end of the year. The narrative evaluations are to be turned into the office one week after the end of the year.
- Recess supervision
- Subject Teacher meeting attendance
- Parent conferences
Qualifications
- Waldorf Teacher Training (desired, not required)
- Bachelor’s Degree and enrollment in an intern program, or other qualifying CA credential
- Enthusiasm and flexibility
- Professional personal presentation
- Singing and proficiency with an instrument would be an asset
Compensation
This is a full time, salaried position. Benefits include medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and retirement plan (employer contributions begin immediately, with a 5% match).
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
- Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
