The Center for Human Development is a community-based organization that offers a spectrum of services for at-risk youth, individuals, families, and communities in the Bay Area. Since 1972, we have provided wellness programs and support aimed at empowering people and promoting positive growth. Our dedicated staff and several hundred volunteers create and deliver programs and services addressing wellness and prevention, youth leadership, conflict resolution, parenting skills, and other challenges facing communities in Contra Costa County. Our volunteers work side-by-side with our staff to deliver quality programs in schools, clinics, and community sites throughout the Contra Costa, as well as nearby counties. The Friday Night Live (FNL) program builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development, which engages youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. Volunteer high school students work together to plan and implement environmental prevention projects in their schools and communities. These projects utilize strategies that seek to affect the prevalence and use of alcohol and other drugs. Prevention efforts focusing on the environment offer the opportunity to produce longer lasting reductions in use and abuse.
The FNL Program Coordinator assists in the implementation of high school groups for the Friday Night Live Program in Contra Costa. The groups typically meet in the afternoon after school.The coordinator will have a “home base” office in Concord and will lead chapters in communities with diverse populations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in a variety of activities involved in the implementation of the Friday Night Live (FNL)/ Club Live environmental prevention program;
- Work with school administration at sites to recruit FNL faculty advisors and program participants;
- Lead coordination, development, and implementation of all Friday Night Live activities and assist faculty advisors to assure program activities comply with established Youth Development standards of practice and core components;
- Compile and analyze a variety of data related to Alcohol and Other Drugs and cessation activities;
- Coordinate trainings and provide ongoing support for site advisors to implement Friday Night Live and Club Live chapters and regarding Alcohol and Other Drugs;
- Implement and facilitate program activities with two chapters;
- Provide resource and referral information for program participants and provide direct services for students, as needed;
- Maintain all data required for reporting purposes including program evaluations;
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required;
- Work with the Program Manager and Executive Director to plan, implement and adapt the Advisor Program Model as necessary;
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated skills in coordinating and facilitating programs and/or workshops;
- Ability to recruit and motivate high school youth;
- Knowledge of alcohol and other drug prevention principles and practices, with an emphasis on environmental prevention;
- Knowledge of youth development principles;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Computer knowledge sufficient to input data and create reports and flyers;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to organize and set priorities;
- Ability to adjust time to allow for occasional evening or weekend meetings;
Credentials and Experience:
- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in health, human services, or related field preferred. Work or volunteer experience would be considered. Excellent position for an individual pursuing a degree in youth services, health education, psychology, or other related fields
- Experience in program delivery of youth services, preferably in a school setting;
- Two to three (2-3) years experience with youth and families and experience in substance abuse prevention or related field;
- Experience working with diverse communities.
Special Requirements:
- Occasional evenings and weekends as requested;
- Valid California Drivers License
- Reliable transportation and proof of insurance;
- Successful background check;
- Clear T.B. test.
