COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

 

• Salary Range: $69,219-$97,190 (2020/21 Faculty Salary Schedule); teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges. This is a full-time, continuing contract position in the Work Experience Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2021. This position is assigned to the Petaluma Campus (20%) and the Santa Rosa Campus (80%). Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

Essential Functions

 

This position is 80% at the Santa Rosa campus, and 20% at the Petaluma campus. SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including on-line. Please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes and weekends with weekly office hours being mandatory. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non- credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, managing laboratories, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college. Here are the essential functions of the Work Experience position:

A. Student Contact-Related Duties for Work Experience Faculty: Examples may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Facilitates application of the department's 21st century Work Experience and Internship curriculum to student work sites.

2. Refines, affirms, and evaluates work-based student learning objectives in consultation with employers. 3. Prepares, arranges, and conducts timely student work site visits with assigned students and employers. 4. Facilitates dialogue between students and employers to reinforce and evaluate work-based learning.

5. Links classroom learning to student work sites in the community by offering structured experiences that enable students to earn academic credit.

6. Confers individually with and advises students in matters related to their academic, career, and personal needs.

7. Develops and presents orientations, seminars, and other instructional materials to facilitate student, employer, and faculty success.

8. Confers with students on individual job skills assessment and career opportunities relevant to the workplace.

9. Develops and offers instructional programs that advise students of current and future employment trends.

10. Identifies and promotes to students the job skills necessary to succeed with local, regional, state, national, and global employers.

11. Updates information related to seminars, websites, and online activities as course curriculum and Title 5 regulations change.

12. Meets with students at established times and by appointment or drop-in.

13. Provides liaison and outreach with other departments, employers, and community resources to establish relationships and promote student success.

14. Ensures student work-site safety and legitimacy within the reasonable expertise of instructors and/or coordinators per Title 5.

15. Refers students to District and community resources, as appropriate.

16. Maintains currency with regional and state codes of regulations that directly affect all Work Experience courses and updates District curriculum to reflect those changes.

17. Solicits and evaluates student feedback to ensure student access, persistence, retention, and success in achieving certificates, degrees, and transfer, as well as the development of job skills assessment and career opportunities in a changing workplace.

18. Analyzes student feedback data and implements course improvements through faculty consensus.

19. Maintains and submits records of student contact as required by the department, District guidelines, and Title 5 regulations.

20. Develops and disseminates marketing materials to expand student and employer awareness and credibility for Work Experience courses and services.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Work Experience Department is part of the Career Hub, and oversees several SRJC courses: Work Experience, Internship, and Community Involvement. Our goal is to link classroom learning with on-the-job experiences, providing students with 21st century skills, also known as "soft skills", as well as, employment skills, career knowledge, and the ability to set goals and assess work-related learning outcomes. Our courses provide work-based learning opportunities and transferable college credit. Because students work in virtually every type of business and organization, we utilize instructors with a wide variety of backgrounds and educational specialties. Instructors work one-on-one with students at the job site to create and evaluate performance on work-based learning objectives. Travel required with reimbursement for gasoline.

Minimum Qualifications

Per the California Code of Regulations, Title 5 Section §53416:

The minimum qualifications for an instructor or coordinator of general or occupational work experience education, as defined in Section 55252, shall be the minimum qualifications in any discipline in which work experience may be provided at the college where the instructor or coordinator is employed. These areas are as follows:

Required for Administration of Justice, Business Administration (Hospitality courses only), Business Office Technology, Computer & Information Sciences (Microcomputer courses only), Construction & Trades, and Food Service:Bachelor's degree AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in the discipline; OR an Associate's degree AND six years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in the discipline; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential authorizing services in the disciplines of interest.

Required for Business Administration:Master's Degree in Business, Business Management, Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, Marketing, or Business Education; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the previous areas AND Master's Degree in Economics, Personnel Management, Public Administration, or JD or LL.B. degree; OR Bachelor's Degree in Economics with a Business emphasis AND Master's Degree in Personnel Management, Public Administration, or JD or LL.B. degree; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Business & Industrial Management.

Required for Child Development:Master's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Home Economics/Family and Consumer Studies with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education; Educational Psychology with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the previous areas AND Master's Degree in Social Work, Educational Supervision, Elementary Education, Special Education, Psychology, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Life Management/Home Economics, Family Life Studies, or Family or Consumer Studies; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential authorizing services in Nursery School & Pre-school education, OR Professional Education.

Required for Computer Studies and Health Sciences*:

Required for Addiction Studies/Counseling (Instruction):

Bachelor's degree AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment; OR an Associate's degree AND six years full-time (or part-time equivalent) of rof professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Counselor's Credential;

 

Required for Counseling:

Master's Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Career Development; OR the equivalent
