Job Summary:

 

Under direction, performs journey-level electrical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment; assures compliance with electrical codes and established safety procedures and requirements.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Analyzes drawings, electrical and electronic blueprints and schematics for the purpose of identifying location of existing electrical systems and determining the efficient installation of additional systems.

 

  • Installs electrical systems including lighting circuits, power distribution circuits, emergency lighting systems, generators, breaker panels, etc. for the purpose of ensuring maintenance of systems in safe operating condition.

 

  • Maintains electrical systems and equipment (i.e. hand dryers, electrical kitchen equipment, and kilns as may be required) for the purpose of ensuring proper/safe and efficient operation of equipment.

 

  • Orders equipment, supplies, tools and materials for the purpose of maintaining and ensuring availability of required items and adequate supply of materials in order to complete assignments efficiently and in a timely manner.

 

  • Orients staff for the purpose of providing information on proper operation of electrical systems.

 

  • Prepares various written documents (e.g. work orders including time materials, cost, plans, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and meeting district, local state and federal requirements.

 

  • Records work orders, inspections, and purchases for the purpose of documenting information for other personnel.

 

  • Repairs and troubleshoots electrical systems including lighting circuits, power distribution circuits, emergency lighting systems, generators, breaker panels, etc. for the purpose of ensuring proper/safe operation of equipment.

 

  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

 

  • Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job sites as required to complete tasks.

 

 

Other Job Functions:

 

  • Assists and coordinates with district personnel and other trades' staff for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities; and, completing projects/work orders efficiently.

 

  • Attends training programs, workshops, meetings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and ensuring compliance with district, local state and federal requirements.

 

 

 Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:

 

  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill to operate hand and power tools used in craft; develop, read and interpret plans, blueprints, and/or schematics, perform basic math to make calculations. Knowledge of appropriate health and building codes, methods, materials and equipment used in craft, safety practices and systems components. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision. 

 

  • Physical Requirements:  The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The requirements of the position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.

 

  • Education and Training Required:  High School graduate or equivalent and two (2) years journey-level electrical installation, maintenance and repair experience.

 

  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
    • Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Tuberculosis clearance.
