The San Diego Unified School District is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional for the position of Chief of Police Services. The Chief of Police Services plans, develops, implements, and directs all security plans and programs for the District. In addition, this position organizes and directs a staff of sworn officers and other personnel engaged in providing district-wide security and protective services. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership, management and communication skills with extensive knowledge of law enforcement practices. The Police Services Department The San Diego Unified Police Department is a fully accredited police agency employing full-time sworn police officers, community service officers, and a full complement of support staff. While our primary role is to maintain order and security on and near school facilities, school police officers provide far more than standard law enforcement efforts. We also take a leading edge, proactive role in creating the positive learning environment in which superb education is not only possible, but also probable. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to graduation from an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field and eight years law enforcement supervisory experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A valid California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Management Certificate. Graduation from the National Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Academy or POST Command College is desirable. Prior to appointment, State law requires the successful passing of a thorough background check, chemical substance and medical testing, psychological testing, and possession of a valid California Drivers License. Existing law requires U.S. citizenship. POSITION AND BENEFITS: The District provides a generous compensation and benefits package, including CalPERS 3%@50 for classic members or 2.7%@57 for new members (CalPERS members after 1/1/13), Six choices of medical plans, including HMO and PPO options through United HealthCare or Kaiser Permanente, three choices of dental plans, including HMO and PPO options, Vision Plan, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Basic and Supplemental Life Insurance, and Employee Assistance Program. The District pays the full cost of medical, dental, and vision care premiums for employees who work half time or more and their eligible dependents.
