General Description 
Under the direction of the K12 Strong Workforce Program Director and school site Administrators, the CTE Dual Enrollment/Career Counselor will provide college transition, outreach and support services for the New Designs Charter School Career Technical pathways. This individual will coordinate dual enrollment and articulation processes, participate in recruitment efforts, and serve as the liaison to colleges for the CTE programs.

This is a Full-Time 12 month position, 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Job Duties 
Job duties of the CTE Dual Enrollment/Career Counselor include:

 

Career Counseling

  • Plan, coordinate and conduct activities and programs to provide Dual Enrollment and CTE transition assistance to students at all New Designs schools.
  • Delivers comprehensive advisement and career support services to New Designs students through CTE program completion.
  • Direct high school students to the appropriate CTE pathways relevant to their interests.
  • Coordinates with NDCS student the production of an employment portfolio.
  • Teaches within the NDCS SWP grant program as assigned including student seminars unique to the NDCS SWP grant program, especially those skills related to employment.
  • Advises students and/or faculty on departmental issues and requirements
  • Maintains student records and portfolios as required. Assists in securing internships and potential employment for students.
  • Guide individual participants toward CTE industry certifications and increase student understanding of career pathway opportunities.
  • Counsels NDCS students regarding their adaptability to a College environment
  • Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services
  • Collaborates with Enrollment Management leadership and personnel
  • Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other College staff as needed to support student success
  • Design and deliver oral presentation and workshops for middle and high school students to include panel presentations, group presentations, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs
  • Participants in periodic informational events and programs for students, faculty, and staff
  • Serves as a member of assigned committees and task forces.
  • Other duties as assigned


Dual Enrollment & College Partnerships

  • Coordinate Dual Enrollment for high schools in collaboration with the school site administrators, guidance counselors, and K12 SWP Program Director.
  • Ensure program implementation plan, metrics, and scope of work of the grant are met in a timely manner, within budget.
  • Prepares required reports for School leadership and grant reporting purposes
  • Facilitate articulation agreements with CTE courses as warranted.
  • Develop recruitment and marketing strategies and coordinate the development of promotional materials such as brochures, speeches, videos, posters and newsletters for use with students, parents, industry partners and community members.
  • Cooperate with the marketing department, in developing, coordinating and implementing various social media and traditional marketing strategies to accelerate student engagements.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts with counselors and faculty at the partnering colleges to develop support systems, exchange information, and provide quality feedback for college staff.
  • Coordinate CTE and career awareness events, workshops and seminars across all campuses for middle and high school students.
  • Assist in facilitating collaboration between high school and community college CTE faculty.
  • Collaborate with the colleges’ Outreach and Financial Aid staff to provide workshops and information to our students.
  • Participate in relevant CTE advisory committee meetings.
  • Initiate and maintain positive relations with feeder school administrators, counselors, faculty, and with public agencies and community groups to develop recruitment sources.
  • Schedule and host campus visits for prospective students.
  • Keep abreast of educational and student support programs to provide accurate and timely information to the schools.
  • Maintain a variety of records, logs, and student files including those of a confidential nature; prepare periodic and special reports and statistical data related to program activities and effectiveness.
  • Develop flyers and letters for promotional purposes as necessary.
  • Maintain a variety of data and statistical reports regarding outreach activities and their effectiveness.
  • Assist the Program Director and Director of Business Services in the preparation and submission of Quarterly Reports to The Grant Agency.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

Education

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Career Counseling, Social Services or a related field is required.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid California Pupil Personnel Services: School Counseling credential.

Experience

  • Experience working in an educational environment is preferred.
  • 2 -3 years experience in counseling youth ages 16- 24 years of age is required.
  • Experience in reviewing student transcripts, scheduling, and graduation requirements.
  • Experience working with high school students in a non-traditional setting and/or an urban environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Driving a vehicle from site to site to conduct work
  • Conducting presentations in the community during evening and weekend hours.
