CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION COORDINATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE: The Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction will assist the Principal in coordinating, supervising and evaluating curriculum and instruction consistent with the Common Core Curriculum Standards and Assessments. The Coordinator will also assist teachers to make the critical instructional shifts necessary to meet the rigor required for college and career readiness standards. Further, he/she will coordinate the school’s Extended Learning Academy, and Academic Enrichment Programs, to make them play complementary and significant roles in teaching and learning in the regular classrooms. The person will also supervise Gate programs, as well as Academic Decathlon.
Qualification and Experience:
Applicant must have at least Masters Degree in Education from an accredited college or University. Must have current California State Teaching Credential. Also, the applicant must either have an administrative credential or in the process of securing one. Applicant must also have strong computer skills: Word Processing, Excel and Power Point and should be able to create engaging Power Point presentations.
The Coordinator should be able to use Webb’s Depth of knowledge to compare the cognitive demand of the Common Core Standards and the Cognitive demand of the assessments given by educators to determine students’ mastery. He/She should possess extensive skill, knowledge and experience in curriculum and Instruction for at least five years. Applicants should be familiar with the latest research on Curriculum and instruction, and have a greater disposition to reading large quantities of research and other written materials.
Essential Function
Applicants should be able to monitor and assess the performance of students to make improvements or take corrective action to improve student achievement. The Curriculum and Instructional Coordinator must promote excellence in curriculum and instruction, by developing and providing next generation pedagogical tools and data systems, as well as providing training for teachers based on research into best instructional practices.
The person will assist teachers to make the critical instructional shifts necessary to meet the requirement for rigor in college and career readiness standards. The applicant should be able to assist teachers in designing instructional practices where students work collaboratively; take knowledge and utilize it in real world; develop the ability to test hypotheses, analyze and synthesize in order to be successful not just on the new assessments, but also college and future careers. The Coordinator will ensure that the middle school has an academic core standards aligned to what students must know and expected to understand to be able to succeed in College-preparatory English, mathematics, science and social studies courses in high school.
The Coordinator will work with parents, teachers and students to track the academic progress of challenging students. They will play a critical role in keeping parents informed by arranging multiple conferences among students, their parents and their teachers. These conferences will provide an opportunity for students and parents to set goals that motivate students and enable them to see the relationships between their middle grades studies, high school studies and beyond.
The person will coordinate the site GATE program, including facilitating the nomination, referral and assessment of potential GATE students including those from diverse linguistic, socio-economic and cultural background. He/She should be able to participate in advanced training to provide curriculum and programs for gifted learners. He/She must provide resource for teachers with individual GATE students and cluster of gifted learners and must also coordinate the school site GATE advisory committee.
Other Duties and Responsibilities may include organizing professional development and workshops, supervising lunches, after schools programs, Razz Kids as well as other duties that may be assigned by the Principal.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must possess California Teaching Credential and also Administrative Credential. Must have been, at the minimum, a credential teacher for at least five years, or must have served in an administrative position in a school with similar demographics.
