Job Summary
Board District Background Board District 7 (BD 7) serves over 100,000 students at over 150 public schools in the unique and diverse communities of South Los Angeles, Watts, Gardena, Carson, Torrance, Harbor City, Lomita, Wilmington, and San Pedro. The BD 7 team works collaboratively and strategically with school and district staff, families, community and labor partners, government agencies and others to ensure all students are fully prepared for college, career and life. What you will be doing • Develop and implement, in collaboration with the BD 7 team and communities, a proactive strategy to meet school and community needs • Serve as primary liaison between Board Member Ortiz Franklin and a portfolio of schools, community partners, and neighborhoods, building relationships, engaging in meetings and events, and taking action to serve our students • Build and implement systems to track and respond to family and community engagement efforts, including constituent communications, problem solving, new ideas and requests • Provide recommendations concerning LAUSD Board resolutions, budget decisions, reports, and policies based on a deep and ongoing understanding of community need as well as important issues, stories, and developments in the community • Coordinate and support communications (social media and newsletter contributions) for school visits, community forums, listening sessions, advisory boards and other events Minimum Qualifications Education: A Bachelor's or advanced degree in education, sociology or a relevant field Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in education, community organizing or relevant field Desirable Qualifications • Exceptional skills in building relationships, solving problems, and communicating orally and in writing, preferably in both English and Spanish • Understanding of and successful experience in the communities of BD 7 • Demonstrated commitment to student achievement,
