JOB TITLE:  SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

SCHOOL YEAR: 2024-25

HOURLY RATE:  $200/FULL DAY OR $100/HALF DAY

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Your duties will include assigning homework, managing classroom activities, and compiling reports.

 

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Adhere to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.

  2. Follow procedures and achieve lesson goals.

  3. Assign and explain homework.

  4. Oversee students outside of the classroom including in the hallways and cafeteria.

  5. Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times.

  6. Take attendance and document daily notes.

  7. Ensure classroom and work is kept clean and orderly.

  8. Oversee the normal classroom rhythms and activities.

  9. Compile a report for the teacher for when he/she returns.

  10. Helps with general housekeeping tasks, including the serving of snacks.

  11. Maintains professional attitude and demeanor with students’ parents and faculty.

  12. Responds to all children with dignity and respect.

  13. Supports a learning environment that promotes fairness and respect.

  14. Supports the creation of a safe environment which promotes group responsibility. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

  2. Bachelor’s degree in Teaching is preferred.

  3. Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching.

 

 Knowledge of:

  1. General concepts of early childhood growth and development and child behavior characteristics.

  2. Techniques used in supervising and motivating young children.

  3. Command of the English language and proficient writing skills including proper use of punctuation, spelling and grammar.

  4. Routine record keeping.

  5. Adherence to personnel policies of the Blue Oak  School.

  6. Specific subject area content as required in job assignment.

 

Ability to:

  1. Proactively assume responsibility for supervising children.

  2. Learn and utilize basic Waldorf methods and procedures that are followed in instructional settings.

  3. Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculations.

  4. Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.

  5. Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.

  6. Maintain cooperative working relationships with children, staff, parents, and the general public.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Some paid or volunteer experience working with preschool and/or primary children, preferably in Waldorf education

  2. Waldorf education experience preferred.

  3. A "whole child" approach to education.

  4. Arts background; may include skills in singing, foreign language, performing arts, and wind/string instruments.

  5. A caring authoritative approach to classroom discipline.

  6. An engaging presence with students.

  7. Fingerprinting through licensing required before employment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger and handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and some light lifting is required. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
