JOB TITLE: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
SCHOOL YEAR: 2024-25
HOURLY RATE: $200/FULL DAY OR $100/HALF DAY
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Your duties will include assigning homework, managing classroom activities, and compiling reports.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Adhere to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.

Follow procedures and achieve lesson goals.
-
Assign and explain homework.
-
Oversee students outside of the classroom including in the hallways and cafeteria.
-
Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times.
-
Take attendance and document daily notes.
-
Ensure classroom and work is kept clean and orderly.
-
Oversee the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
-
Compile a report for the teacher for when he/she returns.
-
Helps with general housekeeping tasks, including the serving of snacks.
-
Maintains professional attitude and demeanor with students’ parents and faculty.
-
Responds to all children with dignity and respect.
-
Supports a learning environment that promotes fairness and respect.
-
Supports the creation of a safe environment which promotes group responsibility.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Teaching is preferred.
-
Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching.
Knowledge of:
-
General concepts of early childhood growth and development and child behavior characteristics.
-
Techniques used in supervising and motivating young children.
-
Command of the English language and proficient writing skills including proper use of punctuation, spelling and grammar.
-
Routine record keeping.
-
Adherence to personnel policies of the Blue Oak School.
-
Specific subject area content as required in job assignment.
Ability to:
-
Proactively assume responsibility for supervising children.
-
Learn and utilize basic Waldorf methods and procedures that are followed in instructional settings.
-
Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculations.
-
Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
-
Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
-
Maintain cooperative working relationships with children, staff, parents, and the general public.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Some paid or volunteer experience working with preschool and/or primary children, preferably in Waldorf education
-
Waldorf education experience preferred.
-
A "whole child" approach to education.
-
Arts background; may include skills in singing, foreign language, performing arts, and wind/string instruments.
-
A caring authoritative approach to classroom discipline.
-
An engaging presence with students.
-
Fingerprinting through licensing required before employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger and handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and some light lifting is required. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
