Thousands of California kids need help in reading and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for these students in schools throughout Fresno and Stockton Counties. As an Elementary Literacy Tutor, you’ll help students in kindergarten through third grade to become better readers. With great training and on-site coaching, we’ll prepare you to work one-on-one or in small groups to help kids develop their reading skills and confidence! Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2020-21 school year. Service will begin in January 2020-21. This is an AmeriCorps member position with California Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You’ll join an amazing group of California tutors, determined to help students be more.
Requirements / Qualifications
Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service. •Are dependable and have a history of good attendance •Able to understand and follow instructions •Can set a pace and maintain a schedule with students •Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) •Can speak, read, and write English fluently •18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent •A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States* •Have served three or fewer terms with AmeriCorps State or National Program •Agree to and successfully complete a background check
