Job Summary

The East Village Middle College High School head counselor works primarily with individual students, helping to guide them on their dual enrollment journey. He/she is actively involved in the recruitment and enrollment process in order to begin building a relationship with the students and their families. Beginning with the 9th grade class, the counselor works with students to help familiarize them with the middle college program. He/she works in partnership with a SDCC college counselor to enroll students in our Personal Growth 110/120 course sequence. In addition, he/she uses the four-year plan as a framework to construct an individualized dual enrollment pathway of college courses to be taken during the fall, spring and summer from grade 10-12. The EVMCHS head counselor is responsible for constructing and imputing the school's master schedule. In doing so, he/she is able to align student college course requests within the existing schedule of high school courses and ensure that all required SDCCD applications are submitted in a timely manner each term. Beyond individual counseling, duties may include classroom Naviance presentations and work within grade level teams. Additionally, the head counselor works directly with the principal and secretary/registrar to fulfill all district site requirements. At EVMCHS, the head counselor enjoys a great deal of autonomy and freedom to develop innovative programming in support of student. This position is offered within a small, supportive, collaborative learning community in which people support one another and professionals are provided with all the necessary resources they need to be successful.
