JOB SUMMARY
Under the immediate direction of the principal, to provide an educational program for pupils in grades K - 6, or a combination thereof (combinations may also contain higher or lower grade levels), and assist in other school programs as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Credential: General Elementary, Standard Elementary, Multiple Subjects or other appropriate California credential.
2. Education: Bachelor’s degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
3. Minimum Experience: Successful student teaching required for credential.
4. Personal Qualities: Grooming and personality, which establish a desirable example for pupils. Good physical and mental health. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisor or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
1. Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Governing Board, and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3. Provide planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction.
4. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for the class including individualized and small group instruction as necessary in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
5. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
6. Evaluate academic and social growth of pupils, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents on the individual pupil’s progress.
7. Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Hold parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil’s progress.
8. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning progress.
9. Create a functional and attractive environment for learning through such things as displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
10. Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
11. Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
12. Establish and maintain district standards as prescribed in board policies and district rules and regulations.

OTHER RELATED FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION:
1. Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintain required inventory records.
2. Insure a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.
3. Perform yard duty supervision of pupils on recess and supervises pupils in other out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
4. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
5. Participate in curriculum development programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
6. Share in sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees.
7. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other
professionals.
8. Participates in school sponsored activities outside the assigned working day such as parent-teacher meetings, Back to School Night, Open House, seasonal programs, and graduation ceremonies (grade level/school appropriate).
