PT Instructor, Theater Arts (Stage to Film)

Location: Las Positas College, Livermore, Ca
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Instructor, Theater Arts in Livermore, Ca. Applicants will be expected to provide instruction in an asynchronous distance ed course in major plays which subsequently have been made into films. Analysis of each play script augmented by a viewing and analysis of the film adaptation. Contents of the course to include: elements of dramatic art; basic vocabulary of both mediums; brief overview of the history of theater and film; study of plays which have been adapted to the screen.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Teach beginning through advanced college-level theater classes, including online if required per District, County and/or State orders. Motivate students at all levels and of all backgrounds and abilities, and adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles.
2 Flexibility to teach classes at times best suited to student need and demand.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance AND Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities OR the equivalent.
Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:
1 Experience teaching all levels of theater (beginning, intermediate, advanced) to diverse student populations
2 Experience with online instruction
3 Experience with motivating students in asynchronous instruction using various teaching modalities
4 Experience with teaching various genres (classical, contemporary, musical)
5 Experience with teaching script analysis for theatrical performance
6 Experience with teaching script analysis for film making and production
7 Experience with critical analysis of performance and production in theater and film
