MAINTENANCE WORKER II – GENERAL
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, perform semiskilled and skilled maintenance, repair and construction tasks in the upkeep of school facilities; and do other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform semiskilled and skilled tasks of a general nature in maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic maintenance trades, such as carpentry, painting, electrical, audiovisual, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, locksmithing, carpet and tile installation and metalsmithing; assist in or perform a variety of functions in the construction and maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards, bulletin boards and a variety of other structures; assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of gas and water lines; may install and repair door and window glass; may make minor electrical installations; may adjust, repair and maintain electrical equipment and a variety of apparatuses and devices; assist in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilation and cooling equipment; may replace and repair carpeting and floor tile; assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of door locks and closures; may prepare surfaces, mix paints and finish a variety of equipment, furniture, school and physical structures; may weld metal parts together using gas and electric welding processes, and fabricate metal and sheetmetal structural items; may operate equipment, such as a light truck, tractor and other related motorized equipment.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Basic methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and construction work;
Rules, regulations and operational procedures pertaining to the repair, maintenance and construction of school buildings, machines and equipment;
Safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to:
Skillfully use a variety of tools and equipment utilized in one or more of the basic maintenance trades;
Work from schematics, blueprints, shop drawings and sketches;
Maintain simple records and prepare reports;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work;
Determine the existence of asbestos;
Relate effectively with racially and ethnically diverse staff, students and community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training in one or more of the maintenance trades.
Experience:
One year of experience as a semiskilled or skilled worker in one or more of the basic maintenance trades.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver's license; have an acceptable driving record; qualify for insurability by the District's insurance carrier.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Strength:
Heavy work involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power driven tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance trades and perform strenuous manual labor; ability to bend, stoop, grasp and reach.
Working Conditions:
Duties may involve working off the ground using ladders, scaffolds and/or mechanical lifts
Pre-Placement Physical: Class II

NOTE: Required examination will be administered on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 3:00pm in the Language Lab (Room 427) at Redlands High School, 840 E Citrus Ave, Redlands. Testing time is approximately 1 hour. NO FURTHER NOTICE WILL BE GIVEN. Disabled applicants may request reasonable accommodation in regard to testing procedures. Please do so prior to the closing date. Photo identification will be required at test site.
