All the info you need to know to become a substitute teacher in the state of CA can be found on the CTC Website https://educator.ctc.ca.gov Please refer all of your questions to the CTC for requirements and processes. Requirements by SRVUSD and the State of California once you are hired to be a Substitute Teacher: FINGERPRINTS • Fingerprints are required through SRVUSD. Payment of $62.50 will be taken out of your first paycheck. • A second set of fingerprints are also required by the CTC (Commission on Teaching Credentialing), (approx $80 fee). • Along with your CTC fingerprints, you will need to apply for your Certificate of Clearance (COC) through the CTC website ($52.50 fee at time of purchase). Please note, the fingerprints for SRVUSD and the CTC are separate and both are required IF YOU HAVE PASSED THE CBEST BUT DO NOT HAVE A TEACHING CREDENTIAL • You will apply for a 30 Day Substitute Permit ($100 fee). Fee will be collected at our New Hire Orientation and must be submitted in the form of a cashier’s check or money order made out to CTC IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN/PASSED YOUR CBEST • You will apply for a CBEST Waiver which allows you to substitute for one year while you prepare to take and pass your CBEST ($100 fee). WHAT TO BRING TO NEW HIRE ORIENTATION IF YOU ARE SELECTED FOR HIRE • Official transcripts. The CTC requires a Bachelor’s Degree or Foreign Transcript Equivalency if your degree is from out of the country. • Copy of CBEST results • Money order or cashier’s check made out to the CTC for $100 if you are applying for a CBEST Waiver or 30 Day Sub Permit. • Current TB Test • Your Teaching Credential or 30 Day Sub Permit if you have one For additional information or questions please visit www.ctc.ca.gov
