Under the direction of the Director Early Childhood Education, and in conjunction with the appropriate Food Service Directors, plans, organizes, and coordinates the Early Childhood Education nutrition program with various pertinent school districts and/or child nutrition agencies. Example of Duties: Follows the Performance Standards of the applicable program. Participates in the development and implementation of the Nutrition Policies and Procedures for Early Childhood Education. Conducts nutritional assessments and evaluates comprehensive nutritional needs of Early Childhood Education children and their families; does follow-up when there is a nutritional need or problem. Identifies and utilizes state and local resources for nutrition programs. Integrates nutrition education into the total Early Childhood Education program and provide nutritional information to parents, staff, and children. Works collaboratively with parents to help them understand the link between nutrition and health. Counsels parents on selection and preparation of foods, money management, consumer education, etc. Ensures that Early Childhood Education nutrition components are developed in a comprehensive manner. Monitors nutrition requirements of Early Childhood Education children, (i.e., child's height and weight). Coordination, in conjunction with appropriate food service directors, of record-keeping requirements for Child Care Food Program, including purchase records, meal counts, and amount served. Completes control log and conducts classroom visits. Helps staff plan and provide nutrition experiences; educate teachers about practices that ensure safety and sanitation during food handling. Participates in menu planning and review with the Director of Food Services, as needed. Make referrals to other component facilitators and community agencies, as appropriate.
