Requirements / Qualifications

Sacramento City Unified School District seeks to recruit a strong instructional leader to advance the vision and mission of John D. Sloat Elementary. The new leader needs to establish and maintain a school culture and climate for effective instructional experiences where all students are encouraged and supported to meet educational goals in a safe and nurturing environment. The John D. Sloat Elementary diverse student body of 256 students is comprised of approximately 42% Hispanic/Latino, 21% African American, 21% Asian, and 16% other ethnicities that include American Indian, Filipino, Pacific Islander, and White. Additionally, 89.5% of its students are from socio-economically disadvantaged households, and 23.4% are English Learners. John D. Sloat’s new principal will need to address areas of concern surrounding low performance in English Language Arts, Mathematics, English Learner reclassification rates, and high chronic absenteeism rates. The new principal is responsible for leading the Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS) work, as well as the restorative justice framework, trauma informed practices, and social emotional learning supports for students and staff. The principal is responsible for fostering and promoting the Parent Home Visit Project. John D. Sloat Elementary focuses on the research based forums for accelerated academic improvement, which includes culturally responsive teaching, balanced literacy instruction and systematic phonics instruction. These very important research based approaches will support students in building their foundational skills as they engage in learning grade level curriculum. The goal for the new principal is to work in partnership with all stakeholders to create an environment where students are empowered to discover their strengths and achieve their goals.
