General Description

College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking a candidate to fill an administrative position under the direction of the Dean, Academic Services, Career Technical Education (CTE) and Workforce Development to coordinate the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and to oversee the administrative duties of the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE).

Job Duties

Under the direction of the Dean, Academic Services, Career Technical Education (CTE) and Workforce Development, the PTA Program Director will oversee recruitment, development and evaluation of key program personnel; identify and work with all stakeholders for the planning, implementation and assessment of the PTA program/curriculum.

 

The PTA Program Director will provide management of the program budget, as well as ensure that all fiscal policies and procedures are followed including procurement and distribution of, and accounting for all grants. The Program Director will remain current in all Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) requirements and maintain CAPTE accreditation for the COS PTA program.

 

The PTA Program Director will participate in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments. Other responsibilities include full participation in departmental and programmatic responsibilities, and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity which is respectful of campus-wide diversity.

 

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following criteria. The degree must be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent.

 

• Must have appropriate license to work in the state of California.

• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant professional program.

• An earned post-professional master's degree or doctorate's degree in physical therapy, education, clinical specialty or other related fields of study and

• A minimum of five years' experience as a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant and three years of clinical teaching and/or clinical coordination experience.

• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modes, such as web-based or on-line instruction, multi-media systems, cooperative learning, or integrated curricula.

• Successful experience teaching students of ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

• Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.

• Completed 9-12 units in graduate level education courses per CAPTE requirement for PTA Program Director; can be completed as part of PTA Program Director workload

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

 

• Assess learning experiences for students during PTA education program

• Evaluate students' performance to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.

• Coordinate assessment of student learning outcome objectives within course and programs and willingness to develop and use stated objectives and measures.

• Work in conjunction with PTA faculty and staff to ensure that instructional strategies and curriculum allow for systematic improvement.

• Engage core faculty in professional development, implementation of curriculum and assessment.

• Chair the PTA Advisory Board to ensure congruency between standard practice of Physical Therapy and PTA curriculum.

• Ensure congruency with PTA Program and long-range planning for the District

• Educate students, clinical and academic faculty about the PTA program including student and faculty orientation

• Maximize available resources for the PTA program.

• Perform administrative and academic responsibilities consistent with the CAPTE, and with institutional policy in a timely manner

• Provide documented records and assessment of PTA program curriculum, as well as clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.

• Select and develop clinical contracts for learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice (CAPTE ACCE duties)

• Develop criteria and procedures for clinical site selection, utilization and assessment (e.g. American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Guidelines for Clinical Education; CAPTE ACCE duties).

• Manage clinical responsibilities consistent with CAPTE, federal/state regulations, institutional policy and practice setting requirements. (CAPTE ACCE duties)

• Communicate between the District and Affiliated Clinical Education Sites (CAPTE ACCE duties).

• Develop relationships with donors to coordinate COS Foundation requests to ensure program longevity.
