Fall 2020 Currently Accepting Applications Fifth/Sixth Grade Science Co-Teaching Position Helios School is seeking a motivated, passionate, and well-rounded teacher with expertise in Science to join our teaching team. We are a K-8 independent school for gifted children in the Silicon Valley, and our mission is to provide engaging and imaginative education that meets the unique intellectual, social and emotional needs of gifted students and families. The teacher will be working primarily with 5th and 6th graders in a blended grade band and be responsible for teaching a variety of subjects including Math, Science, English/Language Arts, and social-emotional learning. This is a full-time position with competitive salary and full benefits. A successful teacher at Helios will collaborate with other teachers and staff, build authentic and positive relationships with students, and embrace being a lifelong learner. Outstanding candidates have an understanding of gifted learners, thematic curriculum, and a constructivist approach to teaching. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Designing, developing, and delivering lessons (remotely and in-person) focused on measurable learning targets aligned with Helios’s mission, expedition themes, and standards - Using a variety of methods to frequently assess students’ skills and understanding to guide future instruction - Creating and maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment where students feel empowered in their learning - Engaging students in a collaborative problem-solving approach to redirect problematic behaviors - Maintaining updated and accurate records of lessons and assessment data - Communicating promptly and respectfully with parents, providing them with clear and consistent expectations for student learning and behavior, and being proactive with them about concerns - Working collaboratively with curriculum directors, co-teachers and other staff members to build our program, facilitate communicatio

Requirements / Qualifications

- A bachelor’s degree and strong science and math foundation - Successful teaching experience in elementary and/or middle school - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Technological literacy and familiarity with GSuite apps (Gmail, Calendar, Classroom, Docs, etc) - Experience in working with gifted students highly preferred
