MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Work closely with the teachers giving them tools and strategies to meet the needs of ALL students • Model, help implement and supervise ongoing classroom support systems for students with learning challenges • Be a member of Learning Support Resource Team (LEARN) to coordinate efforts for students • Administer basic screenings to gather information about how best to support students and make recommendations for more comprehensive evaluation when merited • Run periodic workshops for teachers during faculty meetings • Maintain communication with teachers, administrators and other staff (with the understanding that the teacher remains the point person for families and outside support) • Attend conferences with teachers and parents as necessary • Coordinate with and report to the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES NEEDED Applicants must have a strong understanding of learning differences in the areas of reading, writing, and math as well as a deep knowledge base regarding ADHD and ASD. Desirable candidates will know about early intervention, RTI, assessments, acquisition of reading, age-specific issues around students’ social and emotional development and be current on the best practices for teaching elementary school reading, writing, and mathematics. QUALIFICATIONS AND SALARY An advanced degree in the field of Special Education is required. Extensive experience working in private practice as an educational therapist and in school settings is necessary. This position is competitively compensated. The salary is dependent upon personal qualifications and experience.
