Job Summary
Individual instruction in ELA, Math, Science, and History for middle school student who experiences academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges. Instructional support activities will be at the second-grade level and include both “push-in” and “pull-out” methods depending on the task and needs of the student. The candidate will: Provide direct one-on-one instruction in the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Assist in implementing curriculum for assigned area(s) of instruction. Work closely with the classroom teacher and parents to modify academic workload in a way that is appropriate for the student’s level of performance and abilities. Shape student behavior through an effective and consistent behavior management system. Provide appropriate interventions to redirect/modify behavior. Provide feedback to support the development of positive self-esteem for the student. Provide behavioral/social skills support at school and home in the areas of instruction, recess, lunch, transitions, and field trips. Work closely with parents, classroom teacher(s), and administration to develop and achieve goals set for the student. Prepare materials for use in instructional activities. Gather appropriate resource information/ materials. Provide teacher(s), parents, and/or school administrators with relevant feedback and information on student progress through ongoing communication. Participate in parent/staff meetings. Support and assist the student’s instructional goals based on Student Support Team Meeting Plans and any other goals specified by therapists. Observe student behavior to identify potential problems and report concerns to the teacher, administration, or parents, as appropriate.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must have experience working with children in an educational or therapy setting or coursework in the special education area. Applicant must be a credentialed teacher with a bachelor's degree and experience working with children with moderate to severe disabilities.
