Requirements / Qualifications
The El Dorado County Office of Education, a recognized leader in providing high-quality alternative educational programs, is looking for a talented teacher to join our team as a part of our Charter University Prep and Charter Connections Academy programs. Our instructional format is similar to a College where, depending upon class choices, students come to the school site two or four days per week, and they must complete significant work at home on the other school days. Students schedule their non-classroom days to complete home assignments, take community college courses, participate in P.E. activities, participate in internships, to work in the business world, or to pursue other personal interests. Our programs are looking for a full time teacher who has mastery of Mathematics instruction and can take that mastery and prepare meaningful classroom and at-home experiences which are motivational and academically rigorous. The candidate will also be responsible for two elective courses (Art) and working with students as a supervising (caseload) high school teacher. Preparation time for teachers is a high priority so that students can receive quality instruction and significant feedback on their work. Teachers have flexible and generous Prep time to prepare quality lessons and interact with students. Our students use technology and we design our courses within web-based Learning Management Systems (L.M.S.) to create a seamless educational experience for students. Class sizes run around 15 students.
Characteristics we are looking for: • Understanding of high school graduation requirements and the ability to counsel students 1 on 1 for academic and career success. • Applicant can bring more to us than just Math teaching skills – we are looking for a team member who can contribute talents, interests and abilities to our school. • An effective and dynamic instructor who loves to work with students individually as well as in a classroom setting. • A person who wants to actively contribute to an environment which is committed to high quality service to our students and families. • The ability to create, adapt, and modify curriculum to work in a program which meets only two days per week. Canned curriculum does not work in our setting. • The ability to quickly connect with students, inspire them, and maintain a culture of learning and mutual respect. • Special Consideration to teachers with successful experience working with students from Pre-algebra through Geometry.
