Job Summary
Under the direction of the Special Education Director of Heartland, the employee will provide Special Education Health and Develop Assessments and also assist the IEP team in the development and oversight of Health Plans to students. The School Nurse serves as a member of the Heartland Assessment Team and will collaborate as well as consult with team members. Duties and Responsibilities: o Perform vision and hearing assessments, health and develop for initial, triennial, and other assessments for students having IEPs (or those with signed assessment plans); o Attend IEP meetings when appropriate, to make reports or provide consultation. o Consult with school administrators, special education, regular education teachers, special education teachers and parents. o Provide consultation regarding students on 504 plans as needed o Conduct health screenings during scheduled school wide screenings. o Check immunizations o Interview parents regarding health issues/concerns o Review of available health records o Document unusual health concerns o Develop medical protocols or health plan for any child with an IEP, if needed o Provide training to staff on medical protocols or health plan o Advise other special education Inspire personnel, if necessary o Provide reports and recommendations to Inspire staff and parents. o Provide presentations and professional development to Inspire staff members; o Communicate with parents through a variety of means; o Maintain regular communication with directors; o Attend core staff meetings; o Appear and conduct themselves professionally o Maintain a safe environment for students; o Respond appropriately to feedback given by parents and students; o Exercise discretion in discussing students with non-parental adults, including staff members.
