Thousands of California kids need help in math and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for these students in Stockton Unified schools. As a Math Tutor, you’ll help struggling students in grades 4-8 to improve their skills and get on track with math. With great training and on-site coaching, we’ll prepare you to work with pairs of students to build fundamental math skills and confidence. We are currently recruiting for the 2020-21 school year. Service will beginin August 2020. This is an AmeriCorps member position with California Math Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You’ll join an amazing group of California tutors, determined to help students be more. What to Expect -Be a change maker by providing math help to small groups of students during school hours. -Be the reason struggling students build their confidence and skills. -Be ready to grow by participating in regular on-site coaching sessions to review student progress and get feedback. -Be impactful by participating in training and ongoing professional development. -Be the motivation and represent Math Corps at school-sponsored activities (e.g., family night) to help build awareness of Math Corps. -Be an ambassador of the program by sharing your experience with the wider community
Requirements / Qualifications
Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service. -Are dependable and have a history of good attendance -Able to understand and follow instructions -Can set a pace and maintain a schedule with students -Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) -Can speak, read, and write English fluently -18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent -A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States* -Have served three or fewer terms with AmeriCorps State or National Program -Agree to and successfully complete a background check *Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
