Job Summary
The Board of Trustees of the Trona Joint Unified School District announces an opening for the position of District Superintendent. The Board is searching for an experienced administrator with strong collaborative leadership skills. The Board is seeking a well-rounded leader to improve academic performance and will utilize the staff, Board and community to continue its forward progress. The selected candidate must be thoroughly knowledgeable of LCFF/ LCAP and accountable for progress on the CAASPP. The Board desires the superintendent to assume leadership of the District effective July 1, 2020.

Experience • Well rounded administrative experience as well as classroom teaching experience. • Ability to develop and effectively manage LCFF/LCAP plan and budgets improving CAASPP results. • Be a highly visible and accessible leader. • Record of empowerment of staff while being personally accountable for results. • Record of cooperative labor relations. • Record of involvement within their local community. Personal Characteristics • Strong, confident and caring leader. • Keeps the Board informed with excellent follow-up and follow-through. • Ability to make decisions and lead staff with a clear direction. • Clear demonstration of honesty, integrity, openness, sense of confidence in oneself. • Ability to multi-task and set priorities. • Unwavering belief and high expectations of staff and students. • Ability to delegate with authority, empower staff and establish systems of accountability. • Ability to confront problems and admit own mistakes. • Genuine commitment to bettering each student’s life as well as the community of Trona. • Courage to make recommendations and unpopular decisions in the best interest of students. Selection Process The Board of Trustees of the Trona Joint Unified School District has requested the assistance of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office in its search for superintendent. Dick Bray and Dr. Mitch Hovey, advisors to the County Superintendent, have been assigned to serve as Board Search Advisors. Applications that are appropriately filed will be screened by a screening committee of professionals authorized by the Board of Trustees. Candidates with the highest rankings will be interviewed by the Governing Board. Prior to final selection, representatives of the Board may conduct a community visit for the finalist candidate. Board interviews are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2020. Community visits are tentatively scheduled for the week of June 1, 2020. Salary and Contract Terms The Board of Trustees of the Trona Joint Unified School District intends to offer the successful candidate a multi-year contract. The compensation package is competitive and commensurate with training and experience. The terms of the contract are open and negotiable.
