ASSISTANT PRInCIPAL -HIGH SCHOOL

 

DEFINITION:

 

The Assistant Principal - High School assists the Principal in the areas of instruction, staff and student supervision, programming and curriculum..

The work year is 210 workdays.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  1. Assumes the duties of the Principal in his/her absence.
  2. Assumes responsibility for the general supervision and discipline of students within the school.
  3. Assumes responsibility for assisting the Principal in the design of a master schedule.
  4. Plans, supervises and directs all student activities and the use of school facilities.
  5. Coordinates the school testing program.
  6. Develops, coordinates and supervises activities of the guidance and counseling programs.
  7. Interprets the school and District programs, policies and procedures to students and staff.
  8. Assists in the hiring process; supervises and evaluates the performance of the school personnel.
  9. Assumes responsibility for the general supervision and discipline of students and spectators at athletic events and other extra-curricular activities, including nights and weekends.
  10. Assumes  responsibility  for  and  supervises  the  employees  and  activities  of  the  athletic department.
  11. Assumes responsibility for the administration, coordination and supervision of various local, state and federal categorical programs including staffing, budget, mandated reviews and representation on school and District committees.
  12. Assists the Principal in the safety, discipline, and general order of the school.
  13. Fosters and maintains positive relationships with all staff, students, parents, and community members.
  14. Assists with leadership in curriculum, evaluation, and professional development.
  15. Successfully mediates concerns between and among teachers, staff, parents and students.
  16. Works  collaboratively  with multiple  administrative,  District, and  site teams to  share best practices to promote the success of all students.
  17. Analyzes data to make informed site-based curricular and program decisions.
  18. Embraces and implements the effective use of technology to enhance instruction, and improve communication and administrative and management functions.
  19. Assumes responsibility for supervision and administrative designee support for special education programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a valid California teaching and administrative credential
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Must have a valid California driver's license
