STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Psychological Services Manager, provide professional services to special education students, parents, school and District personnel to improve the educational performance and psychological functioning of students; participate in the development and implementation of comprehensive Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for special education students.

CLASS DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Provide professional services to special education students, parents, school and District personnel; perform professional evaluations of psychological, social and educational needs of students; produce clinical diagnoses in accordance with established requirements.

Serve as a member on IEP teams; participate in the development and implementation of comprehensive IEP's for special education students; provide written psycho-educational case studies as needed by the IEP team or other professionals; manage and update assessment team referral lists.

Utilize a variety of psycho-diagnostic techniques and procedures to assess students; design and formulate appropriate treatment plan and solution strategies; recommend student eligibility for special education, school/class placement and strategies for improving achievement and behavior.

Select, administer, score and evaluate a variety of educational diagnostic tests; interpret test results to parents and professionals and make recommendations; prepare testing records for each student.

Confer and communicate with physicians, professionals and outside agencies regarding the problems, progress and treatment plans for referred students.

Consult with special education teachers to assess student progress; discuss and modify the goals, methods, procedures and educational materials for each student; assist teachers in developing behavioral management systems, educational objectives and written instruction plans.

Prepare, develop and maintain confidential student records and files in accordance with legal and professional requirements; prepare and submit a variety of reports related to assigned activities and students.

Provide counseling to students and parents; perform student observations on playground and in the classroom; drive a vehicle to conduct home visits as necessary; participate in parent/teacher conferences.

Consult with and provide in-service and support services to administrators, faculty, specialists and other County Office of Education personnel as requested; develop and implement in-service programs utilizing community resources.

Provide crisis intervention counseling for students, parents and staff as needed; provide preventive mental health services as requested.

Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer.

Participate in the formulation of Special Education policies and procedures.

Perform related duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO:

Provide professional services to special education students, parents, school and District personnel.

Perform professional evaluations of psychological, social and educational needs of students.

Select, administer, score and evaluate a variety of educational and psycho-diagnostic tests.

Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: master's degree in educational or clinical psychology, including at least one year of internship under the supervision of a credentialed school psychologist.

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology

Valid California driver's license.
