The Oakland Teacher Residency cultivates and grows local diverse STEM and Special Education teachers to serve our students and communities in order to eliminate the predictive power of demographics and increase opportunities for all Oakland students. Our vision is for all Oakland Unified School District students have access to rigorous and relevant learning experiences delivered by OUSD STEM and Special Education teachers who 1) reflect the critical identities of their students, 2) are highly skilled practitioners and committed socio-political activists, and 3) receive the highest quality preparation and support. The Oakland Teacher Residency supports aspiring STEM and Special Education Educators with thoughtful, prepared mentors and an immersive apprenticeship experience. This ensures Oakland Teacher Residents are trained, prepared, and grounded on day one of teaching. The Residency is a full year immersive classroom experience with an experienced mentor teacher. The Resident is in the classroom 5 days a week for 4 hours a day during the academic school year. Each Resident is paid $15,000 for this year of gradual release student teaching and in exchange is expected to make a commitment to teach in OUSD Schools for at least 4 years. Plus, you may earn an annual 5,100 Housing Stipend annually for up to three years (if you meet the criteria). Applicants must have: 1) Bachelor’s degree before Fall of 2020 2) Be enrolled in a Teacher Credential program with a partner university by Fall 2020 3) Passed the CBEST Our partner teacher credential universities include: California State University East Bay- Special Education and STEM San Francisco State University- STEM University of California Berkeley- STEM For more information, please see our OTR website www.ousd.org/otr and check out our OTR application for the 2020-
