BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Recreation and Enrichment Programs Site Lead directs the activities of a Recreation and Enrichment Program site in the areas of academic support, recreation, personal development, and enrichment for children and youth in the Cutler-Orosi area.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Under the direction of the Recreation and Enrichment Programs Coordinator, the Recreation and Enrichment Programs Site Lead will provide leadership for the site, supervising staff members, providing high-quality academic, enrichment, and recreation activities for program participants; coordinating with school site and Community Services staff; planning, assigning and directing work; and addressing and resolving any issues that may arise with participants, parents or staff.

- Collaborates with COJUSD staff to supervise assigned Recreation and Enrichment Program site
- Evaluates the performance of program staff
- Monitors all program activities at assigned site
- Supervises the implementation of a comprehensive program including arts & crafts, science, math language arts, physical education, recreation, social learning, field trips, events and other suitable educational activities at assigned school site
- Plans and conducts staff meetings
- Confers with parents regarding activities, policies and enrollment procedures
- Confers with staff regarding child’s or youth’s behavioral or learning problems and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences
- Arranges medical attention for ill or injured child, in accordance with program policies
- Performs teaching duties in the absence of regular staff
- Utilizes effective problem solving techniques and conflict resolution models
- Communicates effectively both orally and in written form
- Performs other related duties, as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience: 1-2 years experience in after school programs, with increasing levels of responsibility and performance preferred.
Education: AA or AS degree or equivalent training or experience in after school programs preferred. Must be able to pass school district instructional aide proficiency test or meet No Child Left Behind Requirements for instructional aides.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary Common computer software
Ability to:
Communicate effectively with individuals and groups
Work with staff, parents and community
Understand and implement concept of project
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment:
- Cafeteria, classroom and playground environment
- Average to high noise and interruption level
Physical Abilities:
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods
- Engage in recreational activities with students
- See to read, review and assure accuracy of work products
- Have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment
- Have ability to move about comfortably from one location to another to supervise student activities in various parts of the school
Other Requirements:
- Must hold a valid California Driver’s License and meet requirements for driving school district vehicles.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have 48 college units or have passed the NCLB exam. Must hold a valid California Driver’s License and meet requirements for driving school district vehicles.
