Department Information

The Office Technician (Typing) postion is posted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ); however the Office Technician (Typing) position will transfer along with DJJ to the Department of Youth and Community Restoration (DYCR) on or after July 1, 2020.

 

The DYCR is an independent department under the California Health and Human Services Agency created by the 2019-2020 Governor’s Budget. Its mission is to help youth who have hurt people, and have been hurt themselves, return safely to the community and become responsible and successful adults. The DYCR shall embrace a vision wherein the youth under its care transition successfully into adulthood, desist from criminal behavior, and become thriving and engaged members of the community.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Typing Certificate Information

 

A typing certification is required when applicants apply for State civil service clerical positions such as Office Assistant (Typing) and Office Technician (Typing). The specific typing requirement will be noted in the Class Specification.

State departments will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute).

Acceptable Certificates

The California Department of Human Resources has approved certificates from the following entities:

  • Any State Agency/Department (the Agency/Department that you are applying to may also give you a typing test)
  • The Employment Development Department’s (EDD) One-Stop Career Centers may offer free typing tests. For a location near you, visit EDD’s website at http://www.edd.ca.gov/Jobs_and_Training/pubs/osfile.pdf .

Unacceptable Certificates
