Job Summary
Working with the Preschool Director, the Preschool Teacher strives to achieve the academic goals of Catholic education while creating positive school community relationships and preparing students to transfer into St. Leo the Great Kindergarten. The Preschool teacher develops a creative learning and social program appropriate for preschool children. The position includes observing the needs of each student and developing learning techniques to help build their social competencies and build self-esteem. Performs other related job tasks as deemed necessary by the Director and assumes a leadership role when the Director is off campus.
Requirements / Qualifications
Essential Job Functions Achieves the goals of Catholic education and promotes Gospel values and Catholic teachings. Exemplifies Catholic living both in and out of the classroom. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of effective teaching techniques and child development in preparing daily lesson plans and learning activities appropriate for the preschool child’s needs. Employs a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children. Develops lessons plans for academic and experiential learning opportunities Directs student needs to improve their social competencies and build self-esteem. Sets goals and tracks children’s progress and reports regularly to parents. Acts as a positive role model and maintains a professional attitude. Uses positive communication skills both in and out of the classroom. Attends staff meetings and trainings as assigned by the Director. Participates in school functions and parent activities. Encourages children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments. Guides children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.) Organizes nap and snack hours and supervises children to ensure they are safe at all times Communicates with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche. Maintains a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
Knowledge and Skills to Perform Job Functions A preschool teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and preschool educational methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention. Excellent communication and instructional skills. Able to interface well with parents. Collaborate with other educators Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
