The primary functions of the principal is to lead, direct and administer all school operations and activities of an elementary school including instructional programs, support services, facility and ground operations, maintenance, student activities, and community relations activities that result in student achievement, and community con?dence. About the Position The primary purpose of the position of Elementary School Principal is to serve as the instructional and climate leader of the PK-5 school and, as such, be responsible for the organization and supervision of the school’s educational program, operation of the school facility, participation in sta? and student activities, and establishment of e?ective community relations. The District currently has 2 open elementary principal positions at Gilbert Heights Elementary (K-5 enrollment – 563) and Lincoln Park Elementary (K-5 enrollment – 547). The successful candidates will align with the values of the David Douglas SD: meaningful, equitable and highly effective instruction and support, with a focus on strong academic growth, allowing each student to thrive socially, emotionally and academically, with the firm belief that every student has the unlimited capacity to learn. As a David Douglas administrator, you will be supported by a robust District mentor program, with a priority on both certified and administrator coaching, along with a high value placed on strong relationships with District bargaining units, and a highly competitive administrative contract. Three elementary schools in the David Douglas School District have preschool programs. The District is intent on expanding preschool into all elementary schools, including the current exploration of the development of an elementary bilingual program beginning with a Preschool bilingual classroom. Therefore, the District seeks candidates who would be champions for this process. About the District The David Douglas School District is comprised of 12-square miles located in urban East Portland, Oregon with a Pre-K-12 enrollment of about 9,800 students, including about 4,500 Pre-K-5 students in 9 elementary schools. Enrollment in the elementary schools ranges from about 400 to about 560. There are also 3 middle schools, one comprehensive high school, and a small alternative high school campus. The community is largely residential with businesses centered on retail and the service sector. It is fully within the city limits of Portland.
